2023 Olifantsfontein Primary School Annual Sports Tournament
Olifantsfontein Primary School held the Annual Sports tournament sponsored by A-Thermal Retort Technologies. The tournament was about Soccer and Netball for under 12 and 13 aged boys and girls. This is a programme that we started 10 years ago and our intention is to raise the bar of sports to a level where our learners would be enhanced so that if a learner does not excel in academics they must also excel in sports.
The participating schools were Edleen Primary School, Halfway House Primary school, Bonaero Primary school and Olifantsfontein Primary school. The award ceremony took place after all the games were finished, awarding first position (Gold medal and trophy), second position ( Silver medal and trophy), third position ( Bronze medal). NEW SOCCER ACADEMY AT OLIFANTSFONTEIN PRIMARY
Olifantsfontein Primary school has realised the need for a soccer academy in Olifantsfontein. As a result, the school decided to introduce an under 11 soccer academy that will guide and develop all learners to succeed in a competitive, professional context.
The purpose of the soccer academy is to identify talent and nurture it. In addition, support children until they reach professional level. The academy will identify talent when children are at primary level up until they reach secondary. “As soon as we see that they are a little bit established we will send them to professional soccer teams such as Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs etc.
As far as gender is concerned, the school decided to start with the boy’s team but as soon as the academy grows, they will add the girl’s team as well. We don’t want to be gender specific.
We call on parents to support their children. Remember, we are a school that knocks off at 2:00 pm, so the training will start after 2:00 pm. We expect parents to arrange transport for children. Interestingly, learners will be coached by someone who knows how to get results. Mr Letladi Madubanya, the Legendary former Baroka FC, Wits University FC and Super Sport FC player, is getting the learners into shape, physically and mentally. Mr Madubanya says he decided to offer his services to the school after realising that children from Olifantsfontein struggle to get into soccer academies. “I am just getting these kids into a healthy mind set to get the feel of the ball ".
